10th March 2011 (3rd day of the trip)

Today we had our very first APPG lesson. The lesson was really enjoyable as Mr. Chua engaged us into the lesson by joking with us along the way. I feel this kind of teaching method not only manage to get the students to participate but also learn effectively. So far, I've only seen a few lecturers who are able to successfully engage students to learn.

We also had an IS lesson taught by the local lecturer about the history, culture and places of interest in China. As I was listening to her, I realised that the Chinese culture over here and back in Singapore has some differences even though we are also Chinese.

For example, she mentioned that during a dinner event, the hots must be seated facing the door and the most important guest is seated on the high hand side. Sitting opposite the host would be his/her secretary who would cheer on the guest to enjoy and drink more.

At the end of the day, I've learnt more about the China Chinese. They are brought up in a way where respect and ranking are important factors to consider no matter where they are, be it during eating or studying. I feel this kind of manners that they culture over the years are really worth preserving as the current generation of people neglects the culture.
